Volunteer FAQ

What duties do volunteers have?

Volunteers are assigned to a variety of committees, performing the many tasks required to conduct a PGA TOUR event. A description of each committee is available for your review prior to your selection of committee choices.

Which days are volunteers needed?  How long can I be expected to work each day?

The great majority of volunteer requirements are Wednesday through Sunday of tournament week, but some assistance may be required before and after the tournament.  Depending on the committee on which you serve, the average workday is 4 to 6 hours long.

How many shifts do I have to work to be eligible for the volunteer golf outing?

You must work a minimum of 4 shifts to be eligible to play in the volunteer golf outing.  The dates for this year’s outing are October 27 and October 28.

Is there a cost? What do I wear?

Yes, there is a minimal volunteer fee that covers the cost of your uniform. The only requirement is that you purchase a volunteer shirt for $26.00.  However, if you do want to wear a hat or any piece of outerwear, it must be our volunteer hat and wind shirt.  You may purchase the above pieces at the Pro Shop at Annandale Golf Club.  They are open Tuesday through Sunday.  Volunteers will provide their own khaki bottoms. Volunteers are required to wear the uniform on the days they are working.

Why do I have to pay for a uniform if I am volunteering my time?

Our event is operated as a 501(c)3 charity and every available dollar is dedicated to our mission of raising the maximum amount for charity.  This year, our primary charity is Friends of Children’s Hospital at UMC.  So, by purchasing your uniform, you are helping us raise money for the children’s hospital.

Where do I eat while I am volunteering?

We have a 2,500 sqft. air conditioned tent located near the clubhouse where you may eat for free on the days you are volunteering.  We have restaurants such as Outback Steakhouse, Mazzio’s Pizza, Buffalo Wild Wings, McAlister’s Deli, and Beef O’Brady’s provide food to our volunteers.

When can I sign up?

Volunteer applications will be available in June, along with committee descriptions and the volunteer chairperson. By submitting your name and address now as someone interested in volunteering, you will receive the necessary information when it is published. You will be able to sign up on our website or by mailing in an application.

Who benefits from the work I do?

Of course the players and spectators greatly appreciate the efforts of our volunteers — it's no secret that the success of the event depends on our volunteer force. An enhanced experience for players, spectators and sponsors ensures our charitable giving increases. The Viking Classic has many charitable partners, though our main benefiting charity is the Friends of Children’s Hospital at UMC.

We hope you will be a member of our volunteer team!
